Wrestling gets a lot of flack nowadays. Even though it is one of the most popular forms of entertainment out there, it is still treated as a niche. People seem to think of it as boring or hard to watch on account of the fact that it's fake. Well, I'm going to say why I enjoy professional wrestling.
Mick Foley
Let's just get this out of the way. People always say that wrestling is fake. In a way, it is, but calling it fake is a good way to downplay what wrestling really is. Wrestling is scripted. Same as movies, tv shows, video games, theater shows (which you could call wrestling a modern day theater show), etc. Now, the matches' endings are predetermined, but it's not fair to call it fake, when people get injured from wrestling all the time. One of the best examples to look at is Mick Foley, a wrestler whose career has involved plenty of injuries. It's a form of entertainment where the actors don't have stunt doubles. This is something that makes wrestling so unique compared to other forms of entertainment.
CM Punk
Now, the main reason I enjoy wrestling is because of the stories you can tell. And these stories can only exist in wrestling. For example, the amazing story between John Cena and CM Punk in 2011, where CM Punk insults the WWE on their show. Or John Cena and Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson rivalry from 2011-2013, where the Rock returns to WWE to fight John Cena. Or the long story between Shawm Micheals and Triple H, where friends become foes. Each of the stories I've mentioned could have only existed in wrestling. Sure the basic story of them is copyable, but the stories can only be told the way that they were.
This is why I enjoy wrestling. Because of how unique it is from other entertainment, and how much a wrestler invests their lives into the business.
